Hot Slag

Hot Slag product identifier

IronGear's most powerful Alnico V humbucker. Stand back, because you might get hurt — a nasty, snarling pickup with serious punch but the brightness and clarity that only an A5 magnet gives you.

Pickup Overview

Stand back, because you might get hurt. A nasty, snarling, bad-tempered bastard of a pickup — definitely for those who like the extreme side of life.

The Hot Slag gives a really punchy performance but retains a brightness associated with its Alnico V magnet. It's great for high-gain rock tones but is still a useful pickup for clean tones. This is IronGear's most powerful Alnico V pickup, and has been incredibly popular since its introduction in 2007.

Works really well in both bridge and neck positions, and can also be combined with the Rolling Mill in the neck for a really flexible set.

Available with Chrome, Nickel or Gold covers, or Black or Zebra open coils.

What Players Are Saying

"I'm amazed! It has lived up to everything I have heard of your pickups, bringing the clarity needed to my Les Paul. I will be recommending IronGear to my friends for your philosophy, pricing and most of all the sound." — Les Paul owner
"I recently purchased a pair of Hot Slags for my new Epiphone Les Paul Custom. I'm used to high-end Jacksons with Seymour pickups, and bought the budget LP for throwing around at band practice. Through my Engl Screamer amp the Hot Slags absolutely sing — completely changed a bland Epiphone into my current favourite guitar." — Epi LP Custom owner
"After a look online and reading reviews, I had to have them. The price of these monsters is unreal — bargain. Bloody hell, where have you been all my life!" — Epiphone Les Paul owner
"To say the results were a revelation does scant justice to the experience of putting these bitches through their paces. Fitted a pair of Hot Slag zebras to a long-restored Epiphone Les Paul — pure power and bite." — Epiphone Les Paul owner
"My Function Band — I needed more bite. Hot Slags totally transformed the guitar. Read about them in Guitar Buyer and the YouTube demos sealed the deal." — Action Replay (Essex Guitar Services)
"Just installed Hot Slags in a twin-humbucker Strat project. Wired with a coil-tap switch — first gig with the guitar last week, and for the first time in 11 years my Les Paul stayed in its case! Absolutely cracking value, with better definition than more expensive pickups I've used." — Stuart Powell, Mr Bones

"I just received and fitted one of your Hot Slag pickups to the bridge of my Les Paul, and for the price it's unbelievable! So much tone and definition. Great to see a UK company offering quality gear at such reasonable prices." — Pete, Shropshire
"Truly amazed at the Hot Slag pickups. I read up on forums and thought I'd try a pair in my Edwards JP relic — was a little disappointed with the Seymour Duncans that were stock. The IronGear humbuckers are clear, strong and well-balanced across the frequency range. I will not be spending any more silly money on brand names again." — Musikhaus Thomann sales (Germany)
"I came across IronGear last summer when I was building a superstrat project, and I finally ordered a pair of Smoke Stacks and a Hot Slag (bridge) instead of the EMGs I was intending to get. To say I was stunned at the tone and output was an understatement." — Tom, Telford
"I just bought a pair of IronGear Hot Slag zebra pickups and they are just as good as I thought they would be. Perfect, just perfect." — Jimmy, Fife
"I fitted the Hot Slag pickup in my Epiphone Les Paul Classic (bridge) and have to say how impressed I am. The tone is so much clearer than the old stock pickup — very clean and bright when natural and very powerful with good definition when overdriven or distorted." — Paul, Southend-on-Sea
"In went the Slags — instantly I have AC/DC, Gary Moore and ZZ Top without any problems. Anyone else who is struggling with how cheap IronGear pickups are, forget it. I will never put anything else in any of my guitars again." — Steve, Gainsborough
"For a budget price the Hot Slag completely transformed an old Squier I'd almost given up on. With the gain dialled up they're punishing, but they clean up beautifully too — exactly what a high-output A5 humbucker should do." — Project guitar build
